Psychiatry

Psychiatry comes from Greek words which literally mean healer of the mind. It is a field of medicine focused specifically on the mind, aiming to study, prevent, and treat mental disorders in humans, which are conventionally divided into three very general categories: mental illness, severe learning disability and personality disorder.

A psychiatrist is a licensed medical doctor, who has not only earned a medical degree (MD), but has further specialized in the field of psychiatry. They are thus able to diagnose and recommend a variety of treatments for any specific condition. They are also able to prescribe medications suitable for whatever condition is diagnosed.

Depending on the severity of your condition, a doctor may recommend you to a psychiatrist.
